Jonathan Goldman was born in Nottingham, U.K. on 16th December 1943. He is the elder son of the late Rabbi Dr Solomon Goldman z.s.l. and the late Mrs Sadie Goldman [nee Berkovitch].
He started writing poetry in the year 2000, when he was diagnosed with the rare, incurable skeletal muscle disease called Myasthenia Gravis. He is a Practising Jew, and has a devout Faith in the Almighty. With Myasthenia controlled by his drug cocktail, he can lead a reasonable life, but has had to make certain changes to his lifestyle and hobbies, as he is not allowed any exercise or sports. With Myasthenia, the more he uses his muscles, the weaker they become.
All of his poems are posted on www.poemhunter.com, and having written 500 poems has decided to stop writing. Some of his poems are of a religious nature, others of his view of the beauty of creation and of the world in which we live. Some are for friendship and peace, some in the Alphabetic and Acrostic format, and there are two very long love poems. Several of his poems are posted on www.poetry.com. and have already been published by the International Society of Poetry and two have been recorded on CD's.
His poetry has either been written under his English Name of Jonathan Goldman or his Hebrew Name of Yisroel Yonatan Goldman, but all bear his “aka” of “JGthepoet”.
His poetry has been published on various websites including those of www.poetry.com, ~~ www.poetsinkwell.com, ~~ and www.poemhunter.com where an E-poetry book in pdf format can be downloaded. It can also be downloaded from the next page and you will require either an Adobe Reader or similar program to view the file.
The International Society of Poetry, to celebrate the 'American National Poetry Month in April 2007' has honoured him, together with many other International Poets, with the Honour of being appointed 'A 2007 Poetry Ambassador'.
In the U.K. The Poet Laureate is a Regal Appointment, however, on the International Poetry Scene, the term “Poet Laureate” signifies recognition by fellow International Poets, and he is gratified to be so recognised.
